Dr. Elaine Healy has been actively involved in patient care, medical education, physician leadership and health-care advocacy throughout her career. She is board certified in internal and geriatric medicine and is a sought-after expert in matters of aging, elder care, nursing home medicine, dementia, medical ethics, end-of-life/hospice care as well as medical-legal concerns. Dr. Healy has often been cited in national and regional press and trade outlets and has been a frequent guest on television and talk radio shows; she has given numerous presentations at medical education conferences and has held leadership positions in state and national medical organizations. As a nursing home medical director in New Rochelle, New York, Dr. Healy was at ground zero when COVID-19 devastated these facilities in the early days of the pandemic; she was the first to sound the alarm about the notorious March 25th mandate that ordered nursing homes to admit COVID-infected from the hospitals and has published numerous Op-Eds on this and related topics. Dr. Healy gave the first national presentation on the management of COVID infections in the nursing home setting and co-authored the first published article on this subject in a national peer-reviewed medical journal; she served on NY State’s COVID Nursing Home Task Force and continues to advise and educate nursing home clinicians about this complex topic.
